Why is it important to have Health Care Advance Directives?

People always assume, by virtue of their relationship with their loved one, that if their loved one is injured or ill, the doctor will speak to them and give them their medical information. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) privacy laws are in effect, and you need documents authorizing you to get medical information and make medical decisions for your loved ones.
