How can a Special Needs Trust help without jeopardizing government benefits?

Adele Small Harris

Many times I get questions regarding Special Needs Trusts, and setting them up for disabled children or other family members. The unique thing about a Special Needs Trust is that it allows the disabled person’s money to go into a trust and be utilized for them, without taking over or jeopardizing the government benefits that the family typically has worked hard to get. Government benefits may include Medicaid or SSI. A Special Needs Trust allows for the management of that money for that beneficiary, to help enhance and assist them with any of their life needs – whatever the government isn’t paying for. Many times folks do not properly prepare these Special Needs Trusts, and there could be negative consequences to that. See us so that we can review your Special Needs Trust or prepare one for you, to help properly protect your disabled loved one.
