Beware Unsolicited Offers To Provide Your Deed For A Fee

If you receive a letter offering to provide you with a copy of your deed for a fee, you should ignore it. Scroll down to see a sample of this kind of solicitation.

This is not exactly a scam. It is simply an attempt to get you to pay for something you can easily get elsewhere, for free. The solicitation even tells you your deed is available elsewhere for free, but you have to read the fine print to realize that.

You can get a copy of your deed AT NO COST from your county’s clerk of the court. If you want a certified certified copy from the clerk’s office there will be a fee, but nowhere near the $98 requested in the letter we have posted below.

To get a copy of your deed, log onto the records department of your local county. Here are links for several local counties:
