Beginning January 1, 2003, Florida joins a growing number of states that permit residents to include a pet as beneficiary of an estate plan. Until now, Florida residents concerned about the care of pets should the pets outlive them, had to rely on informal and technically unenforceable arrangements. Under the new law, the provisions you make for your pet in your will or trust will have legal teeth. Contact The Karp Law Firm if you have a beloved pet and wish to consider incorporating this provision into your estate plan.
