Facebook has billions of users, and it is estimated that 10,000 of them die each day. How to handle the accounts of deceased users has been a work in progress for the social media giant. You can choose to have your account deleted once you pass away, or appoint a “legacy contact” to manage your account after you are gone.
Now, Facebook is rolling out a new feature. If your legacy contact memorializes your account, he/she can opt to create a special “tributes” section of your account. Your profile will have the word “remembering” after it. The tributes section is a place where friends and family can share memories, remember birthdays, etc. The legacy contact will be able to moderate that section, which is where all new posts will appear.
