Fiduciary Services
Serving Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Broward, Okeechobee Counties and the Surrounding Communities
Appointing someone to handle your health care decisions and financial affairs while you are alive, and to administer your estate after you are gone, are serious decisions. Some people may not know anyone who is suitable for or willing to perform these jobs. Others for a variety of reasons may prefer a third-party fiduciary over family members or friends.
Under certain circumstances, Attorney Joseph Karp can serve as your fiduciary. Mr. Karp evaluates requests to serve as fiduciary on a case-by-case basis. An in-depth discussion of your needs, expectations and fees are required first. This discussion generally occurs as part of the estate planning consultation. Mr. Karp will consider serving as your:
- Successor Trustee
- Co-Trustee
- Personal Representative
- Co-Personal Representative
- Agent under Your Durable Power of Attorney
- Co-Agent Under Your Durable Power of Attorney
- Health Care Decision-Maker Under Your Health Care Surrogate
Our office has the infrastructure required to handle all of the responsibilities these jobs entail. If any occasion arises that Attorney Karp is not available to handle his duties, The Karp Law Firm’s managing attorney is the backup and steps in.
Other Fiduciary Alternatives
If you wish to use a third-party fiduciary and prefer someone outside our office, or if Attorney Karp cannot accommodate you, there are alternatives. You may, for example, consider another trusted professional such as a longtime accountant. Depending on the size of your estate and the services to be performed, a bank trust department may also be able to assist you. We will be happy to discuss your alternatives when we meet with you.
