Florida Real ID Deadline is May 7, 2025

Beginning May 7, 2025, if you are over age 18 and wish to board a commercial flight, you must produce a “Real-ID” compliant drivers license or ID card or you will be stopped at the TSA checkpoint. The rule applies to both domestic and international flights. You will also need Real ID to be admitted to federal government buildings.

Real ID is a standard that conforms to tighter security regulations issued by the federal government after 9/11. A Florida Real ID card has a gold star in the upper right-hand corner.

Florida began issuing Real ID in 2010. So if you applied for or renewed a Florida drivers license or ID card after then, chances are you already have Real ID. But even if you do, you will still need to re-apply for a new card if your name has changed since issuance.

TSA will accept a few other forms of identification if you do not have Real ID, including your passport; passport card; Department of Homeland Security Trusted Traveler Card; and several others. Find the full list here.

You may NOT apply for Real ID online. You must appear in person at the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles and bring necessary paperwork. Click here to find your local office.
